Piezo Resonance Innovations, Inc.
Receives $200,000 in Federal Grant Awards
By incorporating motion and electronic control and sensing capabilities into highly-specialized medical devices, Piezo Resonance Innovations, Inc. (PRII) provides solutions to device actuation challenges faced by medical product development teams. Offering original designs to a wide range of partners, PRII has gained expertise in creating innovative, smart-active tools for use in ophthalmology, vascular entry and minimally invasive surgery.

In 2008, PRII was awarded two Phase I SBIR grants totaling $200,000--one from the National Science Foundation and one from the National Health Institute. PRII used the Pennsylvania Innovation Partnership (IPart) to review the proposal concepts prior to submission. In both cases, IPart offered significant insight that was incorporated into the proposals, and the financial contributions from IPart were utilized to assist with the development of the proposals.

PRII has already delivered its first product to Medical Treatment Systems of Raleigh, NC, and partnered with a Pennsylvania medical device manufacturer to develop two surgical devices for the ophthalmology market.

PRII is using SBIR and STTR grants to build its intellectual property and commercial project portfolios. PRII is a woman-owned business located in the Penn Eagle Industrial Park in Bellefonte, Center County, that has grown to seven full-time and two part-time employees since its incorporation in December 2006.

About Innovation Partnership
