Re2, Inc., a Pittsburgh-based developer of Intelligent Modular Manipulation systems for mobile robots, has worked closely with the Innovation Partnership (IPart) to secure funding to write successful SBIR proposals. The company's manipulation technologies include the Small Robot Toolkit, the Re2 End Effector Retrofit Kit and the Dexterous Manipulation System. All of these systems are the result of Re2's success with the Department of Defense Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.
Re2 has had tremendous success winning SBIR grants to develop robotic technologies. Re2 has won five SBIR grants over the past two years. The company has grown by more than 100 percent since its first SBIR award in 2006. Since then, Re2 has successfully transitioned all of its Phase I SBIRs into Phase II programs, each with funding of up to $750,000.
Re2's SBIRs include the Small Robot Toolkit (U.S. Army), High Speed Inspection Robot (U.S. Army), Robotic Nursing Assistant (U.S. Army), Dexterous Manipulation System (U.S. Navy) and the Advanced Risk-Based Path Planner (U.S. Navy). IPart has assisted with proposal writing funding for four of the five SBIR proposals, accounting for approximately $2.5 million in funding.
