The Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/NEP) has announced the appointment of James Peters to its Board of Directors. He will also chair Ben Franklin’s Pocono Northeast Regional Advisory Board.
Peters is a partner with Geisinger Ventures and chief executive officer of MedMining, one of Geisinger Ventures’ portfolio companies. At Geisinger Ventures, he has provided venture direction for initiatives involving information services, genomics and personalized medicine, remote patient monitoring and consumer-oriented models of care. He is responsible for driving the strategic direction at MedMining, an information services business serving the biopharmaceutical market that has experienced significant growth since inception. Peters brings a combination of executive leadership, venture capital and entrepreneurial experience to his roles at Geisinger Ventures and MedMining and to his new role as a Ben Franklin Technology Partners board member.
Prior to Geisinger, Peters served as principal for Updata Venture Partners, a $450 million venture capital firm that invests in early- and expansion-stage software and health care information technology companies, and was a member of Updata’s Senior Leadership team. His investment focus included market research, analytics, business intelligence and health care informatics. Prior to Updata, Peters founded and grew a successful technology services firm that served the medical and consumer packaged goods industries. Earlier in his career, he served as a Senior Consultant at Andersen Consulting in New York City.
Peters is a Senior Scholar appointed by the Department of Health Policy of Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He is a member of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Wharton Healthcare Management Alumni Association. In addition, he serves as an adjunct lecturer in Lehigh University’s MBA program, where he teaches in VENTURE Series, an executive certificate program in entrepreneurship, has started a number of perennial fundraising initiatives and is an active Parkinson’s Disease advocate.
Peters received his BA from Lehigh University, and an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Clarks Summit, PA with his wife, son and daughter.
